FORT WAYNE ANIMAL CARE AND CONTROL IS HELPING MAKE A DIFFERENCE

July 30, 2024 - In April 2023, Mars Petcare's BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ program awarded FWACC a $20,000 grant to help improve the city to become a friendlier place for animals and to help reduce animal bites. This grant supported a four-session workshop to help educate the community on understanding how pets communicate through behavior and body language.

The program and videos FWACC created will be featured in Mars Petcare's BETTER CITIES FOR PETS toolkit; the toolkit is shared among other shelters nationwide. This is an honor for the shelter to be a part of, especially as it aligns with the shelter's mission to serve the community in a humane, public safety capacity while working to keep pets with loving families.

"When we created the program, it was our goal to reduce the number of bites that often occur because signals were missed or misread. I am proud our team continues to do all they can to provide the community with the resources and education to help families keep their pets. It is an honor to be part of the BETTER CITIES toolkit and share with others what Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control does," said Director Amy-Jo Sites.

"Animal Care and Control is committed to providing excellent services and care for animals and owners of animals," said Mayor Sharon Tucker. "We're honored to receive national recognition and a much-needed grant for the work that's being done locally each day. I want to thank the leadership and staff at FWACC. By working together we're keeping our community safer and better educated on the importance of caring for pets."
