Cane River Creole National Historical Park and Cane River National Heritage Area are kicking off our 30th anniversary celebration. In 1994, U.S. Congress acknowledged the unique qualities of this region by creating the Park and Heritage Area. Through the end of 2025, visitors have opportunities to commemorate the occasion by joining in enriching adventures, learning fascinating history, and much more.

The first 30th anniversary events include the opening of Cane River Creole's first visitor center in the historic Texas and Pacific Railway Depot on Saturday, November 2. We invite you to join us at the depot from 9 am to 3:30 pm to celebrate. There will be train themed crafts, games, and activities for children of all ages. Earn your Junior Ranger Railroad Explorer Depot badge. In addition to the activities at the depot, visitors will have the opportunity to view the new outdoor exhibits and the new park orientation film. Several temporary exhibits will be displayed in the depot.

Now is the time to take a cultural journey and immerse yourself in the rich, diverse heritage and vibrant living traditions of Cane River. We invite all people to come and be part of the future of this Park and Heritage Area. The Texas & Pacific Railway Depot, located at 1927 Remembrance Way/ 7^th Street, Natchitoches, will be open to visitors Wednesday through Sunday from 9 am to 3:30 pm. The grounds of Oakland and Magnolia Plantations are open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nearly 70 original buildings remain, many open for self-guided tours including several that are historically furnished from Wednesday through Sunday. Park staff conducts tours of the plantation grounds daily Wednesday through Sunday. In addition, the park offers tours on the NPS App. The Oakland Main House is open for self-guided tours from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The Magnolia Main House is privately owned and is not open to the public.
