Notice: County Updates, Hurricane Helene

  1. Ware County Road Dept. has no internet or phone service.
  2. No burn permits are being issued at this time. Citizens who do not have power are leaving their windows open to get fresh, cool air. The smoke is blowing into people's homes through these open windows.
  3. DC Downtown (201 Jenkins St.) will begin distributing hygiene type items Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. and continue while supplies last.
  4. Ware County Fire Station 1 is distributing bottled water while supplies last.
  5. If you or a loved one are oxygen dependent, please call your supplier when your oxygen supply runs low. Do not call 911 unless you have an emergency.
  6. More supplies are expected later in the week. Updates will be forthcoming.
  7. There is a faith-based group coming to help the vulnerable population clear the debris from their property. If you have loved ones who need help, call 912-287-4499 to put their names and addresses on the list.
  8. As you clear your yard, please place your vegetative debris within the public right of way of the County road in an open area away from trees, fire hydrants, power lines, phone pedestals, natural gas lines, and other utility structures.
  9. Be wary of fraudulent offers of assistance. This includes people pretending to be FEMA representatives or contractors asking for cash up front to clear debris or repair homes. Authentic FEMA officials will carry proper credentials and not just wear a vest marked "FEMA".
  10. Ware County has been declared a federal disaster area and is eligible for both types of assistance: IA-individual assistance for citizens and PA-public assistance for local governments. Citizens can apply for assistance in three ways:
