MADISON, Wis. - MadPrompts is back! On October 16 at 6 p.m., the Discovery Building will once again buzz with creativity and innovation as the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation and the UW-Madison Data Science Institute host an electrifying prompt battle. Join us for an evening that promises excitement, laughter and a glimpse into the potential of AI.

Picture a game show-style extravaganza where UW-Madison students, faculty and staff race against the clock to create unique, funny or otherwise winning AI-generated images. Five contestants, seated in the center of the room with their screens facing out, will receive a meta prompt and feed a string of words into powerful text-to-image generative AI software like OpenAI's Dall-E, Midjourney or Stable Diffusion. The challenge? Impress the judges and audience alike with their originality, humor and creativity.

"AI is being used in fascinating ways by researchers and students across campus," says Lesli Mark, WARF Accelerator Manager. "We want to unite these innovators and the broader community to explore AI's potential and uncover who's harnessing AI to streamline processes and tackle challenges."

This event, part of the Wisconsin Science Festival, is free and open to the public. The audience gets to take part too - moving around the room and showing their support.

Expert judges will provide lively commentary, and their votes will combine with the audience's to determine the ultimate winner. As the competition heats up, contestants will be eliminated one by one, and the top three will grab some awesome cash prizes.

New this year: We're introducing a video competition that extends beyond campus, inviting the greater community to explore the power of generative AI in transforming text into dynamic visual stories. The top entries will be featured at the event.

"Generative AI has taken the world by storm, and this event is a springboard for deeper conversations about the profound impact of these cutting-edge technologies," says Kyle Cranmer, the David R. Anderson Director of the Data Science Institute.

MadPrompts is a testament to the spirit of innovation that thrives at UW-Madison and a peek into a future where technology enhances human expression in new and unexpected ways. Don't miss out on this unique and exciting event - mark your calendars and join us for an unforgettable evening of AI-powered fun!

RSVP for MadPrompts or grab your ticket at the door.

Apply to compete in the live prompt battle by September 15.
