Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – ICJ

Algeria strongly welcomes the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice which does justice to the Palestinian people by recognizing their legitimate inalienable and imprescriptible rights to recover their territories usurped by the Israeli settlement occupation. This landmark development serves as a reminder to the International Community that the core of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict lies in the occupation's expansionist policies, based on forceful annexation of Palestinian territories, unrestrained settlement building and the establishment of the fait accompli with total impunity. This development also reveals that "the objective behind these systematic violations is to undermine the Palestinian national project and nullify the two-State solution, enshrined and endorsed by international law for more than seven decades. Algeria, which warmly applauds this international Justice's victory for the Palestinian people, commits to ongoing efforts in the Security Council to enshrine the rights of the valiant Palestinians, end the Israeli aggression against them, especially in the Gaza Strip, and enable them to establish their independent and sovereign State with al-Quds as its capital, as a just, lasting and definitive solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and a prerequisite for restoring security and stability across the Middle East.
