Statement from Ó Ríordáin in advance of vote on EU Commission President

Speaking in advance of Thursday's vote, Labour MEP Aodhán Ó Ríordáin said:

"Ursula von der Leyen's response to the crisis in Palestine simply does not reflect the position or the values of the Irish people. Her support of Israel despite the ongoing bombardment in Palestine represents a failure of politics.

"That's why I will not support Von Der Leyen for European Commission President in tomorrow's Parliament vote.

"I campaigned to be an MEP that would fight for peace, for diplomacy and for a Europe that represents its foundational values. That is why I cannot and will not support Ursula Von Der Leyen."
