NI Water Event Makes Waves at Fermanagh Lakeland Forum

NI Water's Education Team recently hosted a Water Cycle Exploration and Pollution Prevention event at the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum in partnership with Fermanagh and Omagh District Council and Live Here Love Here's Healthy Oceans Healthy Minds programme.

Healthy Oceans Healthy Minds is an annual celebration, which showcases Northern Ireland's captivating blue spaces and highlights the mental health benefits of engaging with coastal and inland waterways.

The event, which took place on Thursday 22^nd August 2024, offered participants the opportunity to discover more about the wonder of the water cycle from source to tap and also from tap to sea. NI Water's Education Team explained more about the science behind cleaning water and the things everyone can do to keep oceans healthy whilst also protecting waterways. Fermanagh and Omagh Council also shared the principles of Leave No Trace and positive actions to take by participating in a litter pick to try to stop litter from reaching the river.

NI Water Education Officer Anna Killen said: "NI Water is always keen to share more about the vital services we provide. NI Water delivers 605 million litres of safe drinking water to homes across Northern Ireland daily and we treat your wastewater before safely returning it to the environment.

"As water issues come to the fore with climate change, plastic pollution and environmental challenges, it was a real pleasure meeting so many people at the event and to talk more about the importance of our water supply and how we can all protect this valuable resource. Thanks to all who came along on the day."
