NEHAWU KZN CONTINUES WITH ITS STRIKE ACTION AT DUBE TRADEPORT

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union [NEHAWU] in KwaZulu-Natal will this week continue to intensify its strike action at Dube TradePort Corporation [DTPC]. This is after the meeting that was convened on the 25th of April 2024 did not yield any positive results.

As NEHAWU, we have placed the following demands to the management of Dube TradePort Corporation;

• An annual 13th Cheque

• Housing Allowance

• Medical Aid Subsidy and

• Danger Allowance

The union has also learnt with dismay that the employer out of desperation has resorted to breaking the law by using temporary staff as well as security personnel that do not have necessary permits [such as Part 108 and 109] thus contravening Civil Aviation Act 13 of 2009. The union has since reported the employer to the South African Civil Aviation Authority [SACAA].

The union reiterates its call that worker's demands are reasonable and valid and that the employer has the means to address them. We also wish to warn the employer that any form of intimidation and victimization of our members will not be tolerated.

The national union calls upon the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs [EDTEA] to make the necessary intervention as this strike enters the fourth day. As NEHAWU, we remain resolute in defence of our members as they fight for a living wage and better working conditions. We will continue to wage a relentless struggle to protect the interest of workers and defend collective bargaining at all material times.
