The Boston Police Department Remembers the Service and Sacrifice of Sergeant Richard F. Halloran 49 Years Ago Today

BPD Remembers: The men and women of the Boston Police Department remember the service and sacrifice of Sergeant Richard F. Halloran who was killed in the line of duty 49 years ago today. In the early morning hours on Thursday, November 6, 1975, Sergeant Richard Halloran was shot and killed while investigating a suspicious vehicle in the area of Bremen Street and Neptune Road.

Sergeant Halloran was 33 years of age at the time of his death and had served with the Boston Police Department for five years and with the Medford Police Department for two years prior to that.

He was survived by his wife and their two sons, both of whom went on to become firefighters.

Sergeant Halloran is buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. His name is located on the National Law Enforcement Memorial, panel 3, east line 7, as well as the Hero Wall at Boston Police Headquarters and the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial in Downtown Boston.

A Hero Sign has been placed in his honor in the area of Bennington Street and Neptune Road in East Boston.
