Announcing NDB 2.6: Expanded Database Support, Scalable Management and Strategic Partnerships

We're excited to announce general availability of the Nutanix Database Service (NDB) 2.6 release, a milestone update with new functionality that simplifies database management at scale. This release introduces expanded support for popular databases and operating systems, enhanced scalability, and new partnerships with EnterpriseDB (EDB) and MariaDB, which were unveiled at the .NEXT 2024 conference in Barcelona.

Expanded Database Support: More Choices, Greater Value

One of the standout features of NDB 2.6 is its expanded support for newer versions of several widely-used databases and operating systems, including EDB EPAS 16, MongoDB 6.0 & 7.0, MySQL 8.0.36 (Community, Enterprise and Percona editions), and MariaDB 10.6.17. By supporting these newer versions, NDB empowers customers to leverage the latest performance improvements, security enhancements and new features. This includes improvements in:

• Parallel processing for faster queries with EPAS

• Queryable encryption to reduce risk of data leaks with MongoDB

• Enhanced privileges analysis for improved security with MariaDB

Enhanced Scalability and Availability Improvements

NDB 2.6 introduces enhanced scalability that enables a single cluster to support up to 300 databases with 15-minute log backup frequency. As your needs grow, you can seamlessly expand your database environment without complex reconfigurations or additional infrastructure. By enabling more databases to coexist within a single cluster, NDB 2.6 simplifies the process of scaling your operations and ensures that database management keeps up with business growth.

This increased scalability also brings substantial cost optimization benefits. Consolidating multiple databases within a single, efficiently managed cluster reduces the overhead associated with managing disparate systems.

Expanded Partnerships: EDB and MariaDB

At the .NEXT 2024 conference, we announced vital partnerships with EDB and MariaDB. These collaborations are set to bring immense value to Nutanix customers:

• EDB: Our partnership with EDB brings the advanced features of EDB EPAS 16 together with the power of NDB. This includes the ability to provision new standalone EPAS databases on a registered Nutanix database server. As a result, you can refresh cloned EPAS databases from an NDB automatic snapshot and patch EPAS databases using NDB one-click patch functionality.

In addition, EPAS includes Oracle compatibility features, simplifying and de-risking migrations from commercial databases and enhancing customers' ability to develop and deploy modern applications.

• MariaDB: Partnering with MariaDB allows us to offer the latest versions of this robust database platform, known for its exceptionally high performance and security, combined with all the NDB capabilities customers know and love.

This includes the ability to setup binary log replication from one MariaDB instance to another, which enables you to create software profiles using registered database servers and update time machine SLAs and schedules. This integration enables customers to leverage MariaDB's advanced features and reliability in NDB environments.
