Town of Westport - 2024 Land Use Amendments

Negative Declaration

Essex County - The Town of Westport, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed 2024 Land Use Amendments will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the adoption of six amendments to the existing Land Use Law. These are modifications of language to specific sections of the law with four (4) applying Town Wide and two (2) applying only to the Hamlet portion of our Town. The proposed zoning amendment changes will help expedite the planning and enforcement process as allowed in State Law by clarifying provisions of the Town's existing law. Another will address non-conforming uses by allowing a longer grace period after a nonconforming use is discontinued. The remaining amendment will address changes to local housing density to allow more work force housing units. The proposed action is a direct legislative action by the Town Board of the Town of Westport, as contrasted to a specific construction project on a specific site. No construction is proposed or planned in association with the proposed action. The project is located throughout the Town of Westport, New York.
