NEOMED appoints Sophie Sureau as vice president for advancement

Northeast Ohio Medical University announced the appointment of Sophie Sureau as vice president for advancement. Sureau will provide leadership and strategic direction for the University's fundraising, development and alumni relations efforts, effective Oct. 7, 2024.

Most recently, Sureau was associate vice president for national development at Case Western Reserve University where she led a national team of fundraisers and was responsible for presidential engagement. She was part of the advancement team since 2013, working closely with the CWRU School of Medicine.

"Sophie Sureau joins NEOMED at a time when we are experiencing unprecedented growth, with the expansion of our Colleges of Medicine and Graduate Studies, the development of the new Bitonte College of Dentistry and many more strategic initiatives," NEOMED President John T. Langell, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., M.B.A., noted. "We are looking forward to Sophie's fundraising and development leadership in helping NEOMED achieve its strategic goals."

Prior to joining CWRU, she was executive director of the Susan G. Komen Northeast Ohio Affiliate and was recognized with the 2009 Pillar Award for Community Service as Northeast Ohio Executive Director of the Year. The same year, Komen Northeast Ohio was named Affiliate of the Year among the 122 affiliates in the global network.

Throughout her career, Sureau has coached executives, faculty, staff and volunteers. She graduated from the Weatherhead School of Management at CWRU with certificates in Executive Coaching and Women in Leadership. She is also a graduate of the Women Staff Leadership Institute of the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women, for which she now serves on the Board. Sureau holds a bachelor's degree in international marketing from l'École des Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC) Montreal.
