*UPDATE* MURDER INVESTIGATION ARRESTS – 4900 BLOCK OF LONG BEACH BOULEVARD

Homicide detectives have arrested two suspects responsible for the death of Arthur Rainey III, a 38-year-old resident of the city of Los Angeles.

Through their investigation, detectives identified Arthur Rainey III and Malcolm Gibson, a 42-year-old resident of Bellflower as the suspects in an assault on a bar patron. Both suspects entered the bar and began shooting at the intended victim/bar patron. During the exchange of gunfire, suspect Rainey III was fatally struck. Suspect Gibson then fled the scene in a vehicle with a third suspect identified as Michelle Youngblood, a 43-year-old resident of Long Beach. Detectives also found that Gibson and Youngblood participated in a robbery of the same victim approximately 10 days prior.

On July 25, 2024, SWAT officers arrested Gibson in the city of Bellflower. He was booked for murder, attempted murder, and robbery. He is being held without bail. Special Investigation Division detectives also arrested Youngblood in the city of Lancaster. She was booked on conspiracy to commit murder and robbery. She is being held without bail.

Detectives are still actively investigating the motive for the bar shooting.

Detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for filing consideration early next week.

Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting death of a male adult.

On July 8, 2024, at approximately 9:03 p.m., officers responded to the 4900 block of Long Beach Boulevard, regardingmultiple gunshots heard and at least one person who was shot inside of a local business.

Upon arrival, officers locateda male adult subject suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Officers renderedmedical aid and attempted life saving measures until being relieved by Long Beach Fire Department personnel who determinedthe subject deceased at the scene.

Homicide Detectives responded to the scene to investigate the incident. Through their preliminary investigation, detectives determined two armed suspects entered the bar to assault a patron. The bar patron was also armed, and shots were fired between the parties. The following injuries were reported:

  • Suspect #1 - was struck by gunfire and determined deceasedat the scene, who was identified as Arthur Rainey III, a 38-year-old resident of the city of Los Angeles.

  • Suspect #2 - fled the scene before officers'arrival.

  • Bar patron - was struck in lower body and transported to a local hospital.

  • Uninvolved victim - sustained a minor injuryto upper body and was treated on scene.

The investigation to determinethe motive for the shooting remainsunder investigation.

Detectives believe there were additionalwitnesses in the area and are encouraging them to come forward.
