With the re-election of Trump as the 47th President of the
United States, Latinos look to the incoming administration
for solutions to issues affecting their daily lives
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) today released the following statement following the re-election of former President Donald J. Trump to be the 47th President of the United States:
The American electorate has spoken, and we congratulate President-elect Trump on his historic victory. We look forward to an orderly and peaceful transfer of power. As the incoming administration prepares to enter the White House, we urge President-elect Trump to work to unite the country and address the priorities of Latinos and all Americans who are seeking solutions, unity, and prosperity.
We also congratulate Vice President Kamala Harris on her historic campaign for president as the first Black woman and Asian-American to be a major party nominee for the office.
There is much to learn about the complexities and ideological diversity of the Latino vote in this election. It is clear, however, that Election 2024 has marked another year of record Latino turnout. The Latino electorate has demonstrated its critical role in shaping the outcome of hard-fought races up and down the ballot.
The extreme level of vitriol that has taken hold of our political discourse is dangerous and unsustainable. We need to turn our attention to finding concrete solutions to the issues we face and unite the country. Our NALEO members will continue to help achieve this through responsive and effective governance.
Latino elected and appointed officials are on the front lines of the critical issues facing their communities and are looking to the incoming administration for partners in tackling the challenges their constituents continue to face. NALEO thus stands ready to work with the new administration.
NALEO values its role as a partner with and watchdog to our government. With Latinos making up the second-largest population group in the country, the organization remains steadfast in its efforts to ensure our national leaders recognize that Latino issues are American issues and that when our community does well, so does the country.
