Need a little extra help navigating Orange County's online permitting system? A dedicated team of experts is here for you.
On October 1, the County introduced the Onsite Fast Track Support Team, providing face-to-face assistance to homeowners and construction professionals.
"Our business philosophy is putting customers first," said Alan Plante, Manager of Orange County's Division of Building Safety. "We are committed to providing top-notch customer service and additional assistance, where necessary, to ensure that all our customers have access to the services we provide."
The County rolled out this program based on customer feedback, Plante added.
"During several touchpoints in our service delivery, we request that our customers provide us with survey feedback," Plante said. "Reviewing and responding to these surveys ensures that we can be responsive to our customers' needs and suggestion. Over the past several years we received several Fast Track surveys requesting that we provide this type of in-person, one-on-one training opportunity."
Orange County Government issues roughly 81,000 vertical building permits a year, making it the busiest and largest permitting agency in Central Florida. These include permits for small projects like add-ons to single family homes, to grandiose projects like Universal's soon-to-open 750-acre Epic Universe.
The Onsite Fast Track Support Team is part of Mayor Jerry Demings' "Customer-First Initiative" for Development Services.
The "Customer-First Initiative" was launched in 2019 when Demings encouraged County leadership to find creative ways through innovation, teamwork and problem-solving to swiftly move projects through the approval process.
As part of this initiative, a new unifying identity was given to the more than 400 County employees who work in permitting services: Team 400. The "Customer-First Initiative" and Team 400 program recently received a National Association of Counties (NACo) achievement award in the categories of Personnel Management, Employment and Training and Public Outreach and Education Programs.
