The Colorado Springs Airport (COS) greeted over 220,000 travelers in August, ending the summer on a high note. The airport saw a total of 221,246 passengers last month, representing a marginal decrease of 0.9 percent from the previous August. Enplanements also experienced a slight dip of 1.3 percent, totaling 110,220. This decrease can be attributed to reduced available seats based on demand and the impact of industry-wide aircraft delivery. In August 2023, there were 6.1 percent more available seats in the market, with a total of 132,817 seats for this year.
Travel tends to slow down during the fall season, with seasonal flights usually ending around Labor Day weekend. However, despite fewer available seats and passengers, planes were operating at full capacity. The average load factor was 83 percent, a 4 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Looking ahead, COS will offer seasonal service to San Diego (SAN) and San Antonio (SAT) for the holiday months. Flights will operate on peak days in November, December, and January. Travelers are encouraged to start planning holiday and spring trips, as most airlines have released their spring schedules.
Additionally, significant construction developments are expected as ElevateCOS, the airport's concourse modernization project, progresses to modernize the terminal and address accessibility and sustainability improvements.
