Election Judges Needed

Livingston County is in need of election judges for the upcoming general primary election on Tuesday, November 5th.

Election Judges are responsible for the administration of election procedures in the polling place on Election Day and are in a position to ensure that the election process is administered fairly and in accordance with the law. Following is general information with respect to the qualifications, duties and compensation for participating as an election judge.

Qualifications - Must be a citizen of the United States; must be a registered voter; be of good repute and character; be able to speak, read and write the English language; not be a candidate for any office in the election and not be elected committeeman; and declare your party preference.

Duties: opening (6:00a.m.) and closing (7:00p.m.) the polls; responsible for all election materials; ensure that only qualified voters are permitted to vote and that each qualified voter is permitted to vote once and only once; give instruction in the method of voting when requested by a voter; give assistance to illiterate and physically disabled voters; maintain order in the polling place throughout the day; tally the vote after the polls are closed and certify the election results to the Courthouse that night.

Training/Compensation ($205.): Prior to serving as a judge, a training session must be completed. Before each election several election judge training schools will be held, with a mandatory session held every two years. Judges who have attended and completed the mandatory class will receive $205 for their duties on Election Day.
