Amherst Man Pleads Guilty for Injuring Motorcyclist in Hit and Run

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Brian J. Perrin, 34, of Amherst pleaded guilty this morning before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case to one count of Vehicular Assault in the First Degree (Class "D" felony) and one count of Leaving the Scene of an Incident Resulting in Injury (Class "E" felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the highest sustainable charges.

On Saturday, May 11, 2024, at approximately 4:22 a.m., Town of Tonawanda Police officers responded to the area of Colvin Boulevard and Eggert Road for a report of a motorcycle accident with injury. Responding officers found the injured, unresponsive motorcyclist in the roadway. The victim, a 36-year-old male, was taken by ambulance to ECMC where he was treated for serious physical injuries.

Officers found the defendant's vehicle unoccupied with heavy front-end damage in a nearby parking lot. The investigation determined that the defendant fled the area on a bicycle. A short time later, the defendant, who was under the influence of alcohol, was located by Amherst Police a few miles from the crash site in the area of Margaret Road and Charlotte Street.

Investigators determined that the defendant was driving his SUV southbound on Colvin Boulevard when he caused a collision with the motorcyclist at the intersection of Eggert Road. After the crash, the defendant moved his vehicle into the parking lot and left the area without reporting the incident to police.

Perrin faces up to 7 years in prison when he sentenced on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. He was released on his own recognizance.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Christopher M. McCarthy of the Vehicular Crimes Bureau.
