The Big Sit; Goose Pond Fish & Wildlife Area

Want to test (or show off) your bird identification skills? Stop by Goose Pond Fish & Wildlife Area anytime between 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Oct. 13 to join in on our annual Big Sit! The Big Sit is a semi-competitive, international birding event that started back in 1992. The challenge is this: How many birds can you identify in one day while staying within a 17-foot diameter circle?

This event is primarily outdoors and is hosted outside the Goose Pond Visitors Center. We will have snacks, lawn games, competitions, prizes, and more. Stop in for as long as you'd like to count some birds, or just come to have a fun day in a beautiful setting! This event is open to people of all ages.

The Goose Pond Visitor's Center is air conditioned and will provide a place to cool down if the weather is warm. Around the visitor's center there is a paved pathway which offers accessible terrain for this event.

DNR values inclusion and access for all participants and will provide reasonable accommodations for this event. Please contact Ethan Plumier at (812) 512-9159 or [email protected]to make an accommodation request. Requests must be submitted by Oct. 4.

Contact the Goose Pond Office with any general questions about the event at (812) 512-9185.
