ASEAN Celebrates 57th Anniversary in Doha

On 8 August 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy participated in the ASEAN Day Celebration and ASEAN flag-raising ceremony at the W Doha Hotel & Residences. On behalf of the Ambassador of Thailand, Mr. Kittithep Devahastin, Chargé d'Affaires a.i., participated in the event, which was presided over by H.E. Wong Chow Ming, Ambassador of Singapore to Qatar and current Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Doha (ACD). H.E. Ambassador Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, Director of the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, attended the occasion as the guest of honour. The event also brought together the Heads of Missions or representatives from the ACD member states, including Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, along with local journalists.

This event marked two significant milestones: the 57th Anniversary of ASEAN and the commencement of the 2024-2028 ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council Framework of Cooperation. Qatar's ties with ASEAN have grown steadily, with an annual trade volume of approximately USD 9 billion, with Singapore and Thailand among Qatar's top trading partners.
