Alachua County Seeks Volunteers for Advisory Boards

​​Looking for a meaningful way to make an impact in your community? Alachua County is calling on civic-minded individuals to step up and serve on its advisory boards. This is your chance to be a voice for the future of your community and help guide decisions that shape the county's policies and initiatives.

The Alachua County Commission depends on these volunteer-led advisory boards to provide valuable insight on a wide range of issues-from affordable housing and economic development to environmental protection and human rights. With over 250 residents already serving on various boards, the county is looking for more engaged citizens to join the effort.

Current opportunities include:

  • Animal Welfare Advisory Committee - Two openings (one alternate and one certified veterinary technician or graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program)
  • Economic Development Advisory Committee - One vacancy for a City of Gainesville representative
  • Equity Advisory Board - One opening for an alternate
  • Health Care Advisory Board - One vacancy for a healthcare advocacy agency representative
  • Housing Finance Authority - One citizen at large vacancy (with knowledge in labor, finance, or commerce)
  • Human Rights Board - One opening for a lending institution representative
  • Public Safety Coordinating Council - Seeking a representative from state jobs programs or community groups working with offenders or victims
  • Regional Transit System Advisory Board - Three openings for diverse representatives, including citizens affiliated with the Chamber of Commerce, environmental community, major local employers, senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, UF/SFC students, and more.
  • Rural Concerns Advisory Committee - Three openings (one alternate, one Farm Bureau representative, and one residing in an unincorporated area)
  • Veteran Services Advisory Board - Four openings, including two citizens at large (veterans), one post-9/11 veteran, and one post-secondary education veteran representative.
  • Victim Services and Rape Crisis Center Advisory Council - Six vacancies for citizens passionate about supporting victims' rights, including five citizens at large and one alternate.
