What the Actual…

August 22, 2024

Jahana Hayes has spent this week ditching her district to party it up at the DNC.

Most of the time, this wouldn't be noticeable, however Connecticut is facing the aftermath of historic flooding that left two people dead. Democrats' solution? Blame the Republicans.

Hayes and the Democrats were rightfully called out for this behavior. And Hayes's response? There were no available flights. Let's unpack this with a handy timeline.

  • Saturday, August 17th: "Ernesto strengthens back into a hurricane, sends powerful rip currents to East Coast" CT Public
  • Sunday, August 18th: "Connecticut, Long Island face renewed severe weather threat Monday following catastrophic flooding" Fox Weather
  • Sunday, August 18th: Flash Flood Warning issued by CT Management & Homeland Security CTDEMHS Twitter (6:39 PM)
  • Sunday, August 18th: Jahana Hayes jets sets to Chicago because "the storm had not been forewarned, there was no prediction of it…" (SEE FIRST BULLET ABOVE)
    • Hayes postsmultiple photos of herself enjoying the convention while Connecticut faced historic flooding.
  • Monday, August 19th: The bodies of two women were recoveredfrom cars that died in the flooding.
  • Tuesday, August 20th: Hayes finally submits a letter to FEMA, more than 24 hours after the flooding occurred.
  • Wednesday, August 21st: Hayes posts, then deletes, then reposts a video explaining why she is still in Chicago despite the ongoing crisis happening in Connecticut.
    • In her video she says she couldn't get a flight. According to flightstats.com, there were seven flights between Chicago O'Hare and Hartford on Monday, August 19th; seven flights between Chicago O'Hare and Hartford on Tuesday, August 20th; and seven flights between Chicago O'Hare and Hartford on Wednesday, August 21st. This does not include flights from other Chicago airports to other northeast area airports.

"Jahana Hayes has always put politics over people and this most recent example is not shocking but particularly egregious. Instead of partying it up in Chicago, she should be at home assisting constituents. Shame on her for putting party over people." - NRCC Spokeswoman Savannah Viar
