Treasurer Garrity, Sen. Yaw, Rep. Flick and Rep. Hamm Announce Return of More Than $54,000 in Unclaimed Property

Harrisburg, PA - Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity, Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23), Rep. Jamie Flick (R-83) and Rep. Joe Hamm (R-84) today announced that more than $54,000 in unclaimed property is being returned to residents of Lycoming County and the surrounding area following an event hosted by the legislators.

"Teaming up with legislators to return unclaimed property is always fantastic, but this event was especially great. Sen. Yaw, Rep. Flick and Rep. Hamm were great partners in the effort to return this money. We're all still being hurt by inflation, especially with the price of groceries, so returning this money will make a big difference. My team and I are working to return more than $4.5 billion in unclaimed property, and I encourage everyone to check our website to see if any money is available for them to claim. It takes less than a minute to search!"

"I was thrilled to see so many of Saturday's attendees reconnected with money and tangible assets that rightfully belong to them. This was a fantastic event and I'm grateful to Rep. Flick, Rep. Hamm and Treasurer Garrity for their collaboration."

Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23)

"I'm thrilled our residents will be receiving some financial relief due to our joint event on Saturday. I am proud to have partnered with Treasurer Garrity, Sen. Yaw and Rep. Hamm to make this possible and deliver quick results. This is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together."

Rep. Jamie Flick (R-83)

"I appreciate Treasurer Garrity's strong commitment to returning property back to the people of Pennsylvania. This money belongs to them, and I was honored to partner with Treasurer Garrity, Sen. Yaw, and Rep. Flick to make sure our constituents receive the money that is owed to them."

Rep. Joe Hamm (R-84)

Residents and business owners stopped by Sen. Yaw's district office in Williamsport on July 20, where they were helped in their search for unclaimed property by the legislators and Treasury's outreach team.

The $54,169.77 worth of unclaimed property identified at the event is in the process of being returned to its rightful owners. In addition, Treasury worked with the legislators to identify an additional $14,996.50 which will be returned to area police departments, fire departments, and EMS organizations.

Unclaimed property can include dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, forgotten safe deposit boxes, and much more. State law requires businesses to report unclaimed property to Treasury after three years of dormancy.

Treasury is working to return more than $4.5 billion in unclaimed property to its rightful owners - including over $15 million owed to residents of Lycoming County. The average claim is worth about $1,600, and more than one in ten Pennsylvanians is owed unclaimed property.
