The 2024 general election is just over a month away, which means it's time to make sure you're ready to vote.

Whether you're voting for the first time or just need a hand requesting an absentee ballot, NU Votes, a non-partisan initiative of Northwestern's Center for Civic Engagement, is here to help.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5. Since some states require constituents to register to vote at least 30 days before the election, the time to register is now. NU Votes is hosting voter services events through Wednesday, Oct. 2, and you can also find voter resources on their website.

Here's what you need to know to make sure your vote counts:

Get in-person help from NU Votes next week.

NU Votes is hosting voter services stations on the Evanston campus on Monday, Sept. 30, Tuesday, Oct. 1, and Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. NU Votes ambassadors can help you check your registration, register to vote and request an absentee ballot.

On Monday and Wednesday, the station will be in the lobby of Sargent Hall, 2245 Sheridan Road, Evanston. On Tuesday, the station will be at the western entrance of Norris University Center, 1999 Campus Drive, Evanston.

Students can vote in Illinois or their home state.

You can choose to register in Illinois with your Evanston address - including your dorm address - or your address in your home state. NU Votes has resources for residents of all 50 states.

If you can't vote in-person, request a mail-in ballot.

Absentee ballot request deadlines are also quickly approaching. Check your state's absentee ballot rules, and request one as soon as possible so you'll have time to send it back before Election Day.

Can't make this week's events? Want more information? Check out NU Votes' online voter resources.

Use their online tools to check your registration status, register and request an absentee ballot, or use the comprehensive voter services tool to take you through the whole process.

Most importantly, vote!

Whatever your voting plan, make sure you follow through and make your voice heard in the 2024 election. Keep an eye out for additional resources and support from NU Votes closer to Election Day.
