October Budget Modernization Initiative update

The Planning Advisory Council is dedicated to advancing the Budget Modernization Initiative in a structured and inclusive manner.

The council has established four subcommittees aligned with the working groups established in spring 2024: Tuition, Fees, and State Appropriations; Research and Creative Activity; Strategic Initiatives; and Academic Unit and Central Services. Subcommittees are tasked with addressing specific questions, developing recommendations and collaborating with working groups.

All Planning Advisory Council members are serving on one subcommittee, and working groups include both council members and continuing members from the spring 2024 working groups. The four working groups have started meeting and are actively discussing questions outlined in their roadmaps. Additionally, initiative co-facilitators Zeynep Hansen and Chris Johnson are involved in multiple subcommittees and working groups. Subcommittees meet weekly, working groups meet every other week or as needed, and the Planning Advisory Council continues to meet regularly.

Boise State has partnered once again with Kennedy and Company for the design phase of the Initiative. While Kennedy and Company will provide support and expertise, the Planning Advisory Council will lead the next phase, including prototype model testing. In spring 2025, the council will conduct additional meetings, listening sessions and presentations about the planned "shadow year" model with university stakeholders.

Information on the Budget Modernization Initiative website and its resources and documentation folder will continue to be updated regularly. Questions can be directed to [email protected].
