WASHINGTON-Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-08) today announced over $250,000 in federal funding for local law enforcement agencies to reduce crime and improve public safety in mid-Michigan.
The funding, awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice, will help local law enforcement agencies hire additional personnel and purchase new equipment. Law enforcement agencies in the following counties will receive funding:
"Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe," said Congressman Kildee. "I am proud to have secured this federal funding to provide them the support they need to prevent crime and stay safe while on duty."
"This funding will help Bay County Sheriff's Office upgrade equipment and improve public safety throughout Bay County. Thank you to Congressman Dan Kildee for helping secure this funding to support local law enforcement and keep the community safe," said Bay County Sheriff Troy Cunningham.
"I want to thank Congressman Dan Kildee for his ongoing efforts to secure federal funding for our Saginaw community. With all the rapid changes in technology, it's challenging to keep up without support from the federal government. This support helps us keep moving forward and allows us to continue our commitment to protecting the people of Saginaw," said Saginaw Police Department Chief Robert Ruth.
"We would like to thank Congressman Kildee for his work in securing this grant. The money received from this award will assist law enforcement agencies across Genesee County in purchasing a variety of new public safety equipment. This equipment will assist officers in the field to include marked patrol vehicles, ballistic vests, less than lethal subject control devices, and equipment for the marine division at the Genesee County Sheriff's Office," said Flint Township Police Department Chief Brad Wangler.
Congressman Kildee has worked tirelessly to support local law enforcement throughout his time in Congress. In September, he introduced legislationto provide more federal funding to recruit and retain police officers across mid-Michigan. As part of his Fiscal Year 2024 Community Project Funding initiative, he secured $963,000 for the Genesee County Sheriff's Office to combat drug and human trafficking and expand services for children who have been victims of crime and abuse. Kildee also secured $963,000 for the Michigan State Police and law enforcement agencies across mid-Michigan to make critical equipment upgrades.
