Finnegan Wins Big at the 2024 LMG Life Sciences Americas Awards

WASHINGTON, DC-LMG Life Sciences held its annual Americas Awards on September 5, 2024, in New York City, honoring life science practitioners and firms across the United States, Canada, and Brazil. Finnegan was named Firm of the Year - Intellectual Property, while partners Jeffrey Jacobstein, John Livingstone, William Raich, Ph.D., Jennifer Roscetti, and David Weingarten, Ph.D., won Patent Strategy Attorney of the Year (New England); General Patent Litigator of the Year (South); General Patent Litigator of the Year (DC Metro); Hatch-Waxman Litigator of the Year - Branded; and Patent Strategy Attorney of the Year (South), respectively. Jeffrey Jacobstein, leader of the firm's patent office practice, brings more than 15 years of experience in sophisticated counseling and successful resolution of contentious proceedings to his practice with clients in the biotechnology and life science spaces. He focuses his practice on strategic client counseling, including due diligence, patent prosecution, and post-grant proceedings, with an emphasis on biotechnology and the life sciences. His experience includes prosecuting and appealing applications within the USPTO, as well as post-grant proceedings and larger portfolio management, diligence, licensing, and opinion work. In previous years, Jeff has been recognized by LMG Life Sciences for his contributions to the fields of Patent Prosecution and Patent Strategy & Management.

A two-time winner, John Livingstone is a nationally recognized first-chair trial lawyer focusing on complex pharmaceutical, chemical, and biotechnology patent litigation before U.S. district courts, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He also serves as lead counsel in post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) of the USPTO. John has previously been recognized by LMG Life Sciences as General Patent Litigator of the Year (South), as an Intellectual Property: Life Sciences Star, and for his contributions to Hatch-Waxman Patent Litigation. He also led the litigation teams responsible for the firm's appellate victory in Kaken Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.; Bausch Health Care v. Andrei Iancu and district court win in AstraZeneca AB v. Aurobindo Ltd et al., both of which were selected as Impact Cases of the Year at the LMG Life Sciences Awards in previous years.

William Raich, Ph.D., represents innovative companies developing biologics, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and diagnostics. As a patent lawyer with a doctorate in cellular and molecular biology, he focuses his practice on patent litigation, pre-litigation counseling, and contentious proceedings at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), applying his technical expertise and courtroom insight to develop simple, persuasive positions for clients. In addition to his contentious work, Bill performs client counseling and opinion work, primarily in areas related to biologics, pharmaceuticals, and DNA sequencing. He has previously been recognized by LMG Life Sciences as a nominee for General Patent Litigator of the Year in the DC area, as an Intellectual Property: Life Sciences Star, and honored for his contributions in the field of General Patent Litigation.

Jennifer Roscetti, leader of Finnegan's chemical and metallurgical practices, focuses on patent litigation before U.S. district courts and the U.S. ITC. She also represents clients before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Her practice encompasses a range of technologies, primarily focused on chemical subject matter, such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and specialty chemicals. Jennifer has experience in representing pharmaceutical patent holders in Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) litigations for blockbuster pharmaceuticals. She has had key responsibilities in all aspects of federal district court litigations, from the initial pleading stage through discovery, motions, claim construction, and trial.

With a diverse chemistry and life sciences practice covering complex chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology, David Weingarten, Ph.D., focuses on patent prosecution, strategic portfolio management, patent litigation before U.S. district courts and the U.S. ITC, and post-grant trial proceedings before the USPTO. This year, David is again being recognized by LMG Life Sciencesas Patent Strategy Attorney of the Year (South). David also has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting U.S. patent applications, coordinating and managing foreign prosecution, developing strategies for portfolio management and planning, and participating in diligence projects on behalf of domestic and foreign clients.
