Ernst Fights to Protect Kids Online

Bipartisan legislation holding big tech accountable passes the Senate.

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) voted to pass the bipartisan Kids Online Safety and Privacy Act to protect children online.

This legislation creates needed safeguards for kids using social media and holds Big Tech accountable for pushing addictive and inappropriate content.

"I am working to hold Big Tech accountable and put the health and wellbeing of America's youth first!" said Ernst. "While our next generation is suffering from a mental health crisis, it's clear addictive social media algorithms have proven to be incredibly damaging. Parents deserve to have peace of mind that they have the necessary tools and transparency to ensure their children can use social media safely."

The Kids Online Safety and Privacy Act, which includes an effort Ernst cosponsored, provides young people and parents with the tools, safeguards, and transparency they need to protect against harmful online content. The bill requires social media platforms to put the well-being of children first, ensuring an environment that is safe by default.
