Falls Prevention Week in St. Pete: September 23 - 27, 2024

Five Days of Events for Seniors to Reduce Their Risk of Falling

September 20, 2024 - The City of St. Petersburg is hosting an educational Falls Prevention program to help provide critical tips to reduce the risk of falls for senior citizens. Falls Prevention Week is being held September 23 - 27, at the Sunshine Senior Center, 330 5th St. N., sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department's Office on Aging.

Falls Prevention Week features five days of activities and special events focused on educating seniors and arming them with prevention techniques to stop falls before they happen.

Monday, September 23, from 1-3 p.m. - Healthy Steps: Day 1
Tuesday, September 24, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. - Ageless Grace Exercise Class
Tuesday, September 24, from 1-3 p.m. - Healthy Steps: Day 2
Wednesday, September 25, from 10:30-11:15 a.m. - Tai Chi Demonstration
Wednesday, September 25, from 1-2 p.m. - Neuropathy: Don't Give Up Hope Lunch & Learn with Dr. Minaya
Thursday, September 26, from 12:30-3 p.m. - Falls Talk & Resource Fair
Thursday, September 26, at 1 p.m. - Falls Talk with presenter Lendel Bright
Friday, September 27, from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. - Field Trip to NOVA University to Falls Prevention Lab and Lunch
Friday, September 27, from 1-2 p.m. - Falls Prevention Bingo & Trivia

The Sunshine Senior Center, along with the National Council on Aging, is committed to empowering older adults to age well and stay fall-free. This weeklong series of events is the perfect opportunity for older adults and caregivers to learn how to prevent falls and take simple steps to reduce their risk.
