Reps. Kim Schofield and Sandra Scott Participate in NFWL Annual Conference and Georgia Female Lobbyist Roundtable Discussion

ATLANTA - State Representatives Kim Schofield (D-Atlanta) and Sandra Scott (D-Rex) recently attended the National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) 2024 Annual Conference in Atlanta where they participated in a roundtable discussion lead by Georgia's female lobbyists, a group of women who advocate for polices that address the needs of all Georgians. The roundtable discussion, titled "The Rise of the Female Lobbyist," was attended by elected leaders from all 50 states and highlighted the role female lobbyists play in shaping policy and advocating for legislation that benefits all citizens.

"Female lobbyists are an essential force in Georgia's political landscape," said Rep. Schofield. "They bring unique insights to the table, often bridging divides and advancing policies that benefit not just women but all people. It's an honor to be able to have them share their experiences with such a diverse group of legislators and work toward a more equitable and representative democracy."

"Having Georgia's top female lobbyists lead this conversation is a testament to the strength and impact of women in politics and policy advocacy," said Rep. Scott, Chairwoman of the NFWL. "The insights provided during this session were invaluable, and we are excited to see the continued influence of women in lobbying roles across the country."

The roundtable convened legislators, policymakers and advocates to discuss the role of women in lobbying and their contributions to addressing issues such as healthcare, education, economic empowerment and social justice. The session highlighted a need for various perspectives in the legislative process and examined how female lobbyists could build coalitions, foster collaboration and contribute to creating laws that address the needs of a broader constituency. Participants acknowledged the insights and expertise shared during the discussion, noting the impact of female lobbyists in shaping legislation on topics such as healthcare access, reproductive rights, education reform and economic equality.

The NFWL is a nonprofit organization focused on supporting women in public office by providing resources and opportunities to enhance their leadership and influence. With members representing all 50 states, the organization aims to foster a political environment that encourages inclusivity and supports women in their roles as legislators and leaders.

Representative Kim Schofield currently represents the citizens of District 63, which includes portions of Fulton County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2017 and currently serves as the Secretary of the Urban Affairs Committee. She also serves on the Creative Arts & Entertainment, Health, Interstate Cooperation and Small Business Development committees.

Representative Sandra Scott currently represents the citizens of District 76, which includes portions of Clayton County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2010 and currently serves as the Minority Caucus Chief Deputy Whip. She also serves on the Banks & Banking, Defense & Veterans Affairs, Human Relations & Aging, Insurance and Reapportionment and Redistricting committees.
