Farewell to Jean-François Furnémont

It is with immense sadness and a very heavy heart that we inform you of the sudden death of our colleague and friend Jean-François Furnémont, who passed away on Friday 11 October.

• Jean-François had been actively engaging in EPRA's cooperation platform for many years, first as Vice-Chairperson (2008-2011), then as Chairman (2011-2014), a role in which he invested a great amount of time, energy and passion and which brought him a lot of joy.

• Jean-François was a tireless advocate for independent, evidence-based and future-proof media regulation and a strong supporter of strengthened cooperation between media regulators. Throughout his years in the EPRA Board, he helped raising the profile of our network, and embodied EPRA's core values of independence, informality and cooperation.

After leaving EPRA, he set up the research and consultant company Wagner-Hatfield that has been providing expertise and has been participating in many capacity-building projects involving media regulatory authorities in wider Europe and beyond.

Jean-François will be sorely missed, as an outstanding media regulation expert and practitioner, a person who always stayed true to his principles, and a dear friend.
