Vehicle Crimes detectives last night observed a Nissan Altima in the area of Jackson Street and 16th Avenue North that had fled police several times in the past two weeks. They maintained surveillance until a police helicopter responded. The driver, Zahnaee Chaney, 27, fled as officers tried to initiate a vehicle stop. Chaney came to a stop in an alley behind a residence on 12th Avenue North. Detectives told her to stop and she drove off, striking a light pole. She and her passenger, Calvert Johnson, 41, were taken into custody. Johnson had two outstanding warrants for vandalism and aggravated trespassing. The Altima is registered in Chaney's name.
A handgun was found on Johnson's person. A second pistol was located inside the car. Both Chaney and Johnson are convicted felons. Chaney and Johnson both have been convicted of aggravated robbery. At the time of her arrest, Chaney was free on bond for two counts of theft of property.
Also recovered from the Altima were a stolen license plate, stolen license plate decal, 3.6 grams of cocaine, and a THC vape.
Both are now charged with felon in possession of a handgun and drug possession. Additionally, Chaney is charged with theft of property, vandalism of government property, evading arrest, and reckless driving. She remains jailed on $30,000 bond. Johnson is being held in lieu of $24,000 bond.
