For 2024 Cal Football home games, consider alternative modes of transportation

Plan ahead - consider walking, biking, or taking public transit to avoid $225 parking fines or towing fees. Home game days in 2024 are August 31; September 14; October 5, 19, 26; and November 16, 23.

Fans and visitors coming near Memorial Stadium on Cal football game days can avoid hassle and traffic by using public transit, walking, biking and avoiding parking in areas with towing and high fines.

Please remember that a small number of blocks in the area will also be off-limits to nearby residents.

BART trains, AC Transit buses, and free UC Berkeley gameday shuttles provide fast access to or near Memorial Stadium. Ride your own bicycle or scooter - or use a shared one - on Bancroft Way's new protected two-way bicycle lane. Walk through the vibrant Southside neighborhood to the stadium.

Game day parking restrictions near California Memorial Stadium begin at 8:00 a.m. and last until 11:00 p.m. Cars parked in areas where parking is not allowed or require a residential permit will be either fined $225; or towed then fined $316 in total for towing fees and citation.

Home game days for the 2024 Season are August 31; September 14; October 5, 19, 26; and November 16, 23.

Transit options for cal game days

BART and AC Transit operate near California Memorial Stadium on gamedays. Downtown Berkeley BART Station is approximately a 25-minute walk to the stadium. AC Transit lines 6, 7, 36, 51B, 52, 79, and F offer stops near the stadium.

UC Berkeley offers free gameday shuttles connecting Downtown Berkeley BART Station to drop-off points near the stadium and ADA golf carts for attendees with mobility issues.

Docked bike-share stations and rental e-scooters are available throughout Southside and Downtown areas. Rent a bicycle or e-scooter and use our protected bicycle lanes on Bancroft Way, Dana St., and Fulton St. to get around.

For drivers, street parking signs will reflect gameday parking restrictions in the area. Drivers should pay particular attention and follow instructions on the street parking signs.

View the map below to see where unpermitted vehicles will be subject to fines or towing. Drivers who park on streets marked red and yellow on the map risk getting their car towed. Towed vehicles will be taken to a temporary lot at Fulton Street and Bancroft Way.

City-owned parking garages are available on Southside and Downtown to ease game day parking concerns. Three garages will offer flat all-day rates for game days:

  • Telegraph Channing Garage at Telegraph Ave. and Channing Way
  • Oxford Garage at Oxford St. and Kittredge St.
  • Center Street Garage at Center St. and Shattuck Ave.

certain streets closed to drivers

The following streets are closed from vehicular traffic on game days for emergency access, public safety, and Cal Football programming. Allow extra travel driving around or through these areas:

  • Northbound traffic on Piedmont Avenue at Bancroft Way
  • Eastbound traffic on Durant Avenue at College Avenue
  • North- and Eastbound traffic on Piedmont Avenue at Channing Way
  • Access to the Panoramic Way and Dwight/Hillside neighborhoods will be limited to residents.

even residents must avoid certain streets

All visitors parking in the Southside area on game days are subject to the same parking enforcement, regardless of if they are there for non-football reasons.

Only Berkeley residents who live in one of the Residential Parking Permit (RPP) zones marked in the map above or on our zone map and have a 2024-2025 permit can park in their zones for more than two hours.

In addition, all vehicles - even those with a valid RPP permit - will be towed if parked on the following streets:

  • College Ave., between Bancroft Way and Dwight Way
  • Bancroft Way, between College Ave. and Piedmont Ave.
  • Durant Ave., between College Ave. and Piedmont Ave.
  • Piedmont Ave., from stadium entrance to Channing Way
  • Warring St., from Piedmont Ave. to Channing Way
  • Prospect St., from stadium entrance to Channing Way
  • Canyon Road, from stadium entrance to Prospect St.
  • Hearst Ave., from Euclid Ave. to Highland Pl.
  • Ashby Ave., from Claremont Ave. to Domingo Ave.

Visitors parking in RPP zones A, B, and D around the Elmwood neighborhood can park for up to two hours without a permit.
