GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - In advance of the Trump/Vance campaign event Saturday, July 20, the City of Grand Rapids is providing information for event-goers and others traveling to and living in downtown.
The Event: Van Andel Arena, 130 Fulton St W. Doors open at noon; event begins at 5 p.m.
Road Closures: Roads immediately surrounding the arena will be closed:
There will be short-term, rolling road closures before and after the event as needed. Out-of-town visitors should check the City's road closure map for information on current construction closures, including Division Ave from Fulton St W (including the intersection) to Michigan St NE.
Parking: Public and private parking ramps and lots in downtown will remain open, with the exception of Grand Rapids Parking Area 2 immediately behind the arena. On-street metered parking will not be available around the arena. Meters will be hooded in advance to designate the closures. Information on City-owned parking, including maps and rates, is available here.
Public Transportation: Both The Rapid and DASH, the Downtown Area Shuttle, will be running, but will have detours for routes around the arena. Check the websites for updates.
"The safety and security of everyone in downtown and elsewhere in our city is our top priority," said GRPD Chief Eric Winstrom. "We are asking everyone to allow extra time for travel and parking, to cooperate with directions given by law enforcement, and to be patient and courteous."
Additional law enforcement officers from the Kent County Sheriff's Office, the Michigan State Police, and neighboring police agencies will be working in conjunction with GRPD and our federal partners to provide a safe and secure environment for all.
