Sanders Calls for a Convention in Columbia County to Fill the Vacancy of the Democratic Nominee for Justice of the Peace, District 8

TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS COME - GREETINGS:

A PROCLAMATION CALLING FOR A CONVENTION TO FILL THE VACANCY IN NOMINATION FOR THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY NOMINEE FOR THE OFFICE OF COLUMBIA COUNTY JUSTICE OF THE PEACE, DISTRICT 8.

WHEREAS: On March 15, 2024, the Columbia County Election Commission certified the results of the March 5, 2024, primary election for, among other things, the Democratic Party nominee for the Office of the Columbia County Justice of the Peace, District 8;

WHEREAS: The Columbia County Election Commission certified that the Honorable Terry Williams became the Democratic Nominee at the primary election;

WHEREAS: The Democratic Nominee for Columbia County Justice of the Peace, District 8, passed away on August 12, 2024, creating a vacancy in nomination for that office; and

WHEREAS: The Democratic Party of Arkansas timely notified me of the vacancy in nomination for the Democratic Party nominee for the office of Columbia County Justice of the Peace, District 8, and indicated that the Party chooses to fill the vacancy in nomination by convention.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS, acting under the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Arkansas, do hereby proclaim as follows:

1. A special convention of delegates of the Columbia County Democratic Committee shall be held no later than September 19, 2024, for the purpose of filling the vacancy in nomination for the Democratic Party nominee for the office of Columbia County Justice of the Peace, District 8.

2. Upon approval of a convention of the appropriate County Party Committee of the nominee of the Democratic Party, the Chair and Secretary of the convention shall provide a certificate of nomination to the Columbia County Clerk and to the Columbia County Election Commission no later than September 19, 2024.

3. All of the deadlines and requirements shall be as provided for by the applicable election laws of this State.
