(BOWIE, Md.) - Bowie State University's Sydney Edmond, a standout softball student-athlete and Treasurer of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), has been selected as one of 20 Fannie Angelos Scholars.
Sponsored by the University of Baltimore School of Law, this prestigious program provides rigorous preparation for law school. It offers scholars the opportunity to earn full or partial scholarships based on their performance, including the upcoming LSAT exam in June 2025.
A Baltimore native and criminal justice major, Edmond transferred to Bowie State from. Bethune-Cookman University in December 2022. She quickly found her place with the Bulldogs and credits her teammates and Coach Edward Powell for making the transition seamless. As a shortstop, Edmond's leadership and dedication helped guide the team to two CIAA championship titles, making history for Bowie State.
Edmond says her performance on the diamond with her teammates is important, but being named a Fannie Angelos Scholar is special.
"This opportunity means so much to me as it brings me closer to my dream of becoming a lawyer," said Edmond. "Balancing softball, academics, and leadership here at Bowie State has taught me the importance of hard work and perseverance, and I'm excited to embrace the challenges ahead with the support of my coaches, teammates, and mentors."
Edmond will graduate in May 2025, and her selection as a Fannie Angelos Scholar marks a significant milestone in her path to law school. With a strong foundation in leadership, teamwork, and a passion for law, Edmond is poised to embrace the challenges ahead, further solidifying her legacy as a student-athlete and future attorney.
