The City of New Orleans, Department of Public Works (DPW) is pleased to announce the reopening of the DeSaix Boulevard Bridge and the completion of associated improvements along the 1700 and 1800 blocks of Moss Street. The bridge, which crosses Bayou St. John, has reopened to vehicular and pedestrian traffic, providing improved connectivity for the area. Pedestrian access to the Wisner Bridge has also been restored.
The $6 million DeSaix Blvd Bridge project was funded by the City of New Orleans bond program. The scope of work included a full bridge reconstruction, new lighting, resurfacing Moss Street, and improved walking and biking connections to the Wisner Trail and City Park. The project was designed by Neel-Schaffer, Inc., and was constructed by RNGD Construction, LLC.
"This project represents a significant investment in critical infrastructure for our residents," said Rick Hathaway, Director of the Department of Public Works. "The new DeSaix Boulevard Bridge not only improves safety and mobility, but also strengthens the connections between our neighborhoods, parks, and trails. We are committed to delivering projects that enhance the quality of life for everyone in New Orleans."
Since May 2018, DPW has completed 217 projects with an estimated value of $1.12 billion. Currently, 34 roadwork projects are under construction with an estimated value of nearly $553 million.
