River Trace off State Route 12: Roadway Closure Update

The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) Operations Team continues to monitor the safety and condition of River Trace through weekly site visits while we work on further identifying solutions.

NDOT met on August 5, 2024, with our consultant team to continue to refine our mitigation strategy. We will be meeting with the Cheatham County Railroad Authority (owners of the railroad right-of-way along River Trace) as well as RJ Corman (operators of the track) next week to coordinate and create a plan that works in partnership with the railroad. Our engineering efforts have assessed the entirety of the River Trace corridor and identified area of the rock face that should be prioritized in order to ensure the roadway remains open in the future. NDOT is working with our consultants to finalize the engineering plan to address these areas.

As we near the completion of our engineering plans, additional coordination is necessary with the railroad entities, utilities, as well as private property owners to access and demolish portions of the rock face. This coordination may take some time and this communication may become less frequent. NDOT will provide periodic updates on the status and timeline of efforts on River Trace as information changes moving forward.

We continue to ask that you report any experienced or observed conditions of concern to Metro's Office of Emergency Management (OEM) for NDOT's notification and response. OEM operates 24/7 and can be reached by email at [email protected] or by phone at 615-862-8530. Contacting OEM is the most expedient way of notifying NDOT of needed action.

Local residential traffic is still able to access the roadway. People biking should use Ashland City Highway/Tennessee highway 12 as an alternative route.
