MDOT community meeting Nov. 7 to discuss updates on I-94 modernization project in Detroit

DETROIT, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is hosting an in-person community meeting on the first phase of the I-94 modernization project between Barrett and Burns avenues. At this meeting, the project team will be sharing current information and seeking feedback about the proposed drainage tunnel and updates to the Iron Belle Trail design. Work is anticipated to start in 2026.

Project information:
The I-94 modernization project is a multi-segment effort to rebuild 7 miles of freeway between I-96 and Barrett Avenue. The project includes modernizing interchanges at Conner Avenue, Gratiot Avenue and M-10 (Lodge Freeway), replacing more than 70 bridges, lengthening entrance and exit ramps, and other operational enhancements to bring the freeway up to modern design standards to improve safety and travel time reliability.
