State Police investigating fatal fire in the town of Granville

On September 2, 2024, at approximately 8:16 p.m., State Police were called to County Route 21 in the town of Granville for a report of a structure fire.

When Troopers arrived, the residence was observed engulfed in flames.

The homeowner, identified as Gene W. Bassett, 75, of Granville, was located deceased inside the residence after the fire was extinguished.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Granville Fire Department and Washington County Fire Investigators.

The investigation is ongoing.
