New Staff Engineers Join R&M’s Construction Services Department

Jerry Carroll, EIT, WAQTC and Dianny Melgar, EIT, WAQTC recently joined R&M as Staff Engineers in the firm's Construction Services Department. In this role, Jerry and Dianny assist with the administration of federal and state-funded construction contracts, including overseeing day-to-day construction operations of airport, highway, railroad and waterfront construction projects, as well as structural vertical and industrial projects.

Jerry joined R&M full-time in 2024, after receiving his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He has one year of engineering experience as an intern at R&M. During his internship, Jerry gained experience in material testing, construction management and civil 3D design. He has worked on a variety of civil infrastructure projects, including airports, roads and public facilities.

"I was excited to come to work for R&M because they work on so many different aspects of civil engineering," said Jerry. "And I've really enjoyed working here so far as everyone is so friendly and always willing to help."

Jerry is an Engineer-in-Training and Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction Qualified in Aggregate, Concrete, Embankment and Base, Density and AK Sampling. He enjoys traveling, hiking and fishing and can usually be found playing basketball or doing something outdoors.

Dianny is a recent civil engineering graduate of the University of Alaska Anchorage. She started at R&M in 2023 as an engineering intern in the firm's Materials Lab and is now a Staff Engineer in our Construction Administration Group. Dianny has three years of construction and engineering experience. She has conducted various materials inspections for infrastructure construction projects and provided on-site inspections for highway improvement projects.

"I enjoyed my time while an intern, which gave me a sense of what would be like to work at R&M," said Dianny. "So far, I really like that R&M offers me the opportunity to explore what I am interested in. Everyone here has also been super friendly and great teachers. I hope I get to see as many aspects of the engineering world as possible."

Dianny is an Engineer-in-Training and Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction Qualified in Aggregate, Concrete, Embankment and Base, Density and AK Sampling. Outside of work, she spends her time with her family; being outside biking, hiking or fishing; and playing video games.
