State Theatre Expands Musical Mural with New Additions

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (November 5, 2024) - A ceremony unveiling the second part of the mural of album covers outside State Theatre New Jersey, 15 Livingston Ave., took place last week.

Located down the alley on the left side of the theater, this stunning mural represents the talented artists who have graced the State Theatre New Jersey stage since its opening in 1921. The first installment, unveiled in 2022, included the spine of album covers of famous stars such as Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennet, Bruce Springsteen, Crosby, Stills and Nash and George Carlin.

The second unveiling on Oct. 30 added Glen Burtnik's 1987 solo album, "Heroes and Zeros." Burtnik, a solo artist, member of Styx, the "Beatlemania" musical, and a New Brunswick High School graduate, was in attendance. So was Jim Babjak, a Carteret native and lead guitarist of The Smithereens, who had The Smithereens' 1986 album, "Especially For You" added to the mural.

There are now 26 album covers adorning the mural. Find the complete list of album covers and honorees here.
