Water Quality Presentation: Protecting the Sugar River and Our Local Water Bodies

The Upper Sugar River Watershed Association and AECOM, the City's engineering consultant, is hosting an important educational and outreach event focused on Water Quality of the Sugar River and Illicit Discharges Detection.

Event Details:

  • Date: Thursday, October 10
  • Time: 6:30 PM
  • Location: Verona Public Library

This presentation will offering direct ways for community members to become involved in protecting local ponds, rivers, and streams within Verona's watershed.

Heather Hasenstein, Communications and Volunteer Coordinator for the Upper Sugar River Watershed Association, will be joined by Zach Topel and Aruna Shrestha, engineers from AECOM. Together, they will discuss the ongoing efforts to detect and prevent illicit discharges that can negatively impact water quality and biodiversity.

Zach and Aruna will also provide valuable tips for identifying potential spills and discharges, and how the community can report these issues to the City, County, or State. Additionally. Attendees will learn how to participate in Volunteer Stream Monitoring, where the public can collect important data-such as stream temperature, dissolved oxygen, and flow-that helps inform decisions about maintaining the health of the watershed.

Join us to learn more about how we can work together to protect and preserve the quality of our water resources.
