REDDING- The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans District 2) and American Pavement Systems, Inc. are preparing to begin work on the Steel Buck Chip Project on State Route 299 in Trinity County. The $1.56 million project will provide an asphalt rubber chip seal on SR 299 near Douglas City, from Steel Bridge Road to 1.5 miles west of the Grass Valley Creek Bridge AND near Buckhorn Summit, from 2.5 miles east of Trinity Dam Boulevard to the Shasta/Trinity County line. The project will also provide areas of asphalt concrete dig outs and the removal and replacement of thermoplastic markings and striping. No work will be performed on bridge decks in the project area.

Construction activities are currently planned to start on Monday, July 29th. Motorists will encounter one-way traffic control with up to 15-minute delays, Monday through Friday during daytime hours. Motorists are urged to slow down and drive carefully in and around construction areas, follow speed limit reductions in place, and allot extra time for delays. Please note the potential for loose gravel during chip placement operations. The project is currently anticipated to be completed by the end of August.
