Detectives Investigating Hillside Fire in Queen Anne

Seattle Police detectives are investigating after a hillside was set on fire in Queen Anne last week.

On July 23rd, at 4:38 p.m., patrol officers responded to reports of heavy black smoke at 899 West Olympic Place. Officers arrived along with the Seattle Fire Department and found the brush engulfed in flames.

The fire started from a tent at an unauthorized encampment. Multiple propane tanks exploded causing the emergency response to extinguish the flames.

The fire occurred right next to Kinnear Park and caused a 1-Alarm response. The park was evacuated for safety. No injuries or deaths were reported.

A 64-year-old man was arrested Possession of Dangerous Weapons, and a $7,500 Assault warrant. Charges for Reckless Burning have been referred to the City Attorney's Office.

This incident is being investigated by the Arson/Bomb Squad.
