1. With the Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Military domain Summit 2024 (hereinafter referred to as "the REAIM Summit 2024*") approximately 40 days away, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (REAIM Summit 2024 Preparatory Team) hosted a briefing to provide updates on preparations for the Summit to the diplomatic corps in Korea on the afternoon of August 1. The briefing brought together the diplomatic corps in Korea from around 90 countries.

2. Lee Won Ik, Ambassador and Head of the REAIM Summit 2024 Preparatory Team, remarked in his welcome speech, "As AI is a technology that can change the landscape of the military domain, collective efforts for responsible AI are pivotal." Ambassador Lee added, "The ROK aims to play an active role in the discussion on international principles and governance for responsible AI in the military domain by hosting the second REAIM Summit this year, following its participation as one of the co-hosting countries of the first Summit last year.

3. The Preparatory Team briefed on program (tentative), logistical arrangements and deliverables of the Summit, followed by a Q&A session. Despite the summer vacation period, a large number of diplomats including ambassadors from diverse countries attended the briefing, expressing their strong interests in the REAIM Summit 2024. The diplomatic corps in Korea appreciated the ROK's substantial efforts to prepare for a meaningful Summit, and assured their active cooperation for its success.

4. The REAIM Summit is an international conference launched to enhance understanding of the responsible development, deployment, and use of AI in the military domain and contribute to instituting related international norms. The governments of the ROK and the Netherlands co-hosted the inaugural REAIM Summit last year. The second REAIM Summit will be co-hosted by the ROK, the Netherlands, and Singapore from September 9 to 10 in Seoul.

5. The REAIM Summit 2024 will consist of Ministerial Segment (September 10, High-level Luncheon and Ministerial Roundtable), REAIM Plenary (September 9-10), and Side Events (September 9-10). Over the two days of REAIM Plenary, high-level panel discussions, REAIM Talks, and breakout sessions will be held, and AI exhibitions and youth sessions will also take place as side events.

6. The REAIM Summit 2024 is open to governments, industries, academia, civil society, and diverse stakeholders interested in the responsible AI in the military domain, and registration is now available on the official website (https://reaim2024.kr).
