ACV Airport to Rehabilitate Paid Parking Lots

The Humboldt County Department of Aviation this past month began conducting a long-overdue major rehabilitation project of the paid parking lots at the California Redwood Coast-Humboldt County Airport (ACV) in McKinleyville.

Parking will be impacted during construction, which is expected to last through mid-September (the construction schedule and information on available parking are below). Once this project is completed, parking at ACV will provide modern, quick, and user-friendly services for passengers. Improvements will include: new parking lot surfaces, an increased number of ADA-accessible spaces, electric vehicle (EV) charging availability, quicker parking lot entry and exit, and 40% more parking spaces than are available today.

The construction schedule is outlined in the table below.

PHASE I PHASE II PHASE III
Certain areas of parking lots closed except for exiting (see below for details) July 3 July 15 July 29
Last day for vehicles to be moved or towed July 12 July 19 Aug. 2
Estimated construction start date July 15 July 22 Aug. 5
Estimate construction complete date Aug. 4 Aug. 4 Sept. 14
* Work in Phase I will continue through the duration of Phase II. Both Phase I and Phase II Areas will remain closed until the beginning of Phase III.

**Due to limited availability and long lead times for new electrical equipment, lighting may be limited in certain areas during construction.

Full electrical installation is expected to be completed by May, 2025.

Throughout these construction phases, the Department of Aviation encourages passengers arrange for a ride to and from ACV to be dropped off and picked up for your flights. This will help reduce traffic at the airport and demand on the limited temporary paid parking lots during construction. Ride services available include:

Lane closures in the vicinity of the ACV Terminal, and the associated construction traffic will cause congestion at times. Passengers should allow for extra time to get to and from the ACV Terminal due to traffic congestion. It is recommended to arrive 1 ½ hours prior to departure for domestic flight itineraries, and 2 hours before departure for international flight itineraries.

We appreciate everyone driving safely and slowly at ACV while we make these improvements for Humboldt County moving forward.
