Protected bikeway survey now open to Eugene residents

The City of Eugene has slowly been adding protected bikeways to the cycling network. What began as a two-way bikeway for students along Alder Street has now expanded into a growing network of protected bikeways, including:

  • Alder Street from Franklin Boulevard to 19th Avenue
  • Eighth Avenue from High Street to Lincoln Street
  • 13th Avenue from Alder Street to Lincoln Street
  • High Street from Sixth Avenue to 19th Avenue
  • East Amazon Street from 33rd Avenue and Hilyard Street to Dillard Road

The path system, which primarily includes the Riverbank Path, the Amazon Path, and the Fern Ridge Path, offers a foundation of all ages and abilities-known as AAA-bike facilities in Eugene. The protected bikeways are designed to build off that path network and provide low-stress, safe and convenient bikeways for people to access more areas of town.

AAA bike infrastructure is designed to create spaces where everyone feels comfortable and safe riding their bike, no matter their age and ability. The primary feature of a AAA bikeway is the separation from car traffic, like a path or curb protected bike lane. Other features include separate bike signals and green paint.

If you have ridden in one of Eugene's protected bikeways, let the City of Eugene know about your experience by taking the Protected Bikeway Survey! Responses will be used to inform City staff on fine-tuning the current bikeways and improving future bikeways.

"The City of Eugene wants to continue building protected bikeways that serve the community best," said Willow Hamilton, community engagement coordinator for the Transportation Planning team at City of Eugene. "We are running this survey because we really want to know: Do people feel safer? Do they have better access to the grocery store, their work or their school? Do they ride through red lights or wait for the green? Are they biking, or are they using scooters, mobility devices or something else?"

The protected bikeway survey will be open until Nov. 15, 2024.
