NOPD Investigating Homicide in Second District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred this evening (September 25, 2024) in the 1900 block of Leonidas Street and left a male victim dead.

At about 9:53 p.m., NOPD Second District officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers were flagged down by a citizen reporting a man down at the location. The victim was found to have sustained a gunshot wound and was subsequently declared on scene by EMS to be deceased.

Detectives are in the process of gathering information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident as well as a motive. No additional information is currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and to officially identify the victim. Announcement of this information will come from the Coroner's Office.
