Branch out for the environment with Mayor Battle at the City’s annual Tree Planting Day

Join Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle in planting 300 trees in Brahan Spring Park at the City's annual Tree Planting Day on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. to noon.

This year's event will feature a wide variety of trees, including oaks, maples, bald cypress, river birch, yellow poplar, southern magnolia, redbuds, dogwoods, and elms, as the City takes another step toward creating a greener Huntsville.

The planting will occur near the area east of the lagoon, across from the Aquatic Center, and supports the City's long-term vision of expanding green spaces through a connected network of greenways from North Huntsville to the Tennessee River.

"This event not only contributes to local sustainability efforts but also enhances the beauty of our parks," Mayor Battle said. "This year, we'll plant around 300 trees in Brahan Spring Park, and I could use your help."

Since 2014, this tree planting initiative has added over 3,000 trees to John Hunt Park alone, revitalizing the ecosystem and supporting community sustainability efforts. Now, the focus shifts to Brahan Spring Park to bring a renewed natural landscape to this popular 169-acre space, which is home to multi-use fields, a disc golf course, and a recreation center.

"Brahan Spring Park is a great location for these new trees," said City Arborist Marc Byers. "Planting in this area helps improve the overall ecosystem and contributes to the City's greenway plans."

The event will be beginner-friendly, and no experience is needed. The City's Green Team will prepare the area with pre-dug holes to the proper depth, and child-sized shovels will be available to allow everyone, young and old, to contribute to this hands-on project. Green Team experts will also be on-site to answer questions and guide participants as they plant.
